At 22 pm August 7, 2010, Zhouqu County of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture met with heavy rain. Luo Jiayu and San Yanyu, located in the north county, started debris flow rushing to the south county and destroying so many houses along the road. Up to August 18, the landslide has caused 1287 killed and 457 missing.

According to the report from CCTV, two-thirds of Zhouqu county has been flooded. two-thirds of Zhouqu encountered power interruption. Part of 313 Provincial Highway, 210 Provincial Highway were also damaged.

At 10 o’clock on the August 14, 2010, China’s State Council announced that August 15 would be a national day of mourning. Hu Jintao, together with people of all nationalities showed the deep condolences to victims of Large landslide in Gansu Zhouqu August 7.
