2010 China floods
Since June 11, 2010, the heavy rain has attacked on some cities in southern China, the grim situation of which has exceeded 1998 floods in the south China.
Jiangxi Province
Since June 13, there have been over 34 rivers reaching the flood warning in Jiangxi Province. Flooding of three major rivers (Fu He, Xin Jiang and Gan Jiang) has exceeded the historical record with flood return period of 50 years. The heavy rain and flooding caused the crack of 17 1000-acres levee, and damaged 33,900 water conservancy projects. The direct economic loss is about 25.5 billion yuan.
Fujian Province
Since June 13, subjected to continuous heavy rain, a large group of ancient landslides appeared in Xiayun villiage, Youxi country, Sanming City, Fujian Province. The fell earthwork volume has reached one million cubic meters, 1,800 meters long, 800 meters wide since June 22 by experts’ survey. Currently, more than 400 victims of flooding have been safely transferred and properly rehoused.
Guangxi Province
Two heavy rainfall from June 12 resulted in 349.64 million people from 80 county region of 11 cities were affected, 37 deaths (1 death due to floods, 4 deaths due to building collapsed and 32 deaths due to geological hazards), 164.58 thousand hectares of crops affected, 16,395 residential housings collapsed. The direct economic loss is about 24.0543 million yuan, of which 10.2081 million agricultural losses.
Zhejiang Province
Since June 17, Heavy rain attacked western and southern Zhejiang Province. South Hangzhou, Quzhou and Lishui encountered extreme rainstorm. At present, all disaster casualties, property losses and other disaster situation are under further statistics. The province and county levels of government relief efforts are also underway.
Sichuan Province
From June 18 to 19, some areas of Sichuan province occurred heavy rainfall cauing 31.81 million people in Luzhou city’s 95 townships were affected. The direct economic loss is about 132 million yuan, of which0.86 million agricultural losses. Currently, local rainfall has stopped, the control station of major rivers didn’t exceed the alert level, and the disaster is under further statistics.
Hunan Province
From June 18 to 20, the north and southeastern Hunan encountered high-intensity storms, affected by which water level of most rivers, lakes and reservoirs in Hunan rised. The whole line of Xiangjiang River exceeded the warning water level for the second time this year. According to preliminary statistics, this rainfall caused 769.4 million people of 1,090 townships in 14 cities were affected, and 25,300 houses were collapsed.
